Centers at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Gezira

Primary Healthcare and Health Education Center

 

Initially, two centers were established: the Health Education Center, created in 1985 with support from the World Health Organization to train health professionals in the field of health education, and the Primary Healthcare Center, also established in 1985 in collaboration with Columbia University in the United States. The two centers were later merged into one center named the Primary Healthcare and Health Education Center.

Its main objectives are:

  1. Training postgraduate students in the field of health education.
  2. Training healthcare professionals, including doctors and health workers, to enhance their skills in healthcare, health education, management, leadership, and communication.
  3. Conducting research in the areas of primary healthcare, health education, and community health.
  4. Strengthening collaboration with the Federal and State Ministries of Health, as well as local organizations working in health sectors.
  5. Providing consultation in the fields of community health, health education, and primary healthcare.
  6. Promoting cooperation with regional and international health organizations.
  7. Designing curricula for health education, environmental sanitation, and management for organizations and institutions working in health-related fields.

The center includes the following units:

  1. Postgraduate Studies and Research Unit
  2. Curriculum and Training Unit
  3. Documentation and Publishing Unit

Medical Education and Research Development Center

The center was established in 1978 at the Faculty of Medicine and is the first of its kind in Sudan. It is also recognized by the World Health Organization as a collaborating center. Its main objectives are:

  1. Developing medical and health education.
  2. Providing training and continuous professional development for faculty members at the Faculty of Medicine, health science colleges, and all healthcare professionals.
  3. Utilizing medical education to serve the community in health-related fields.
  4. Developing research techniques, documentation, and publication in medicine and health sciences.
  5. Building and strengthening relationships with university centers, similar centers locally and internationally, and collaborating with international institutions concerned with medical education and scientific research in medicine and health sciences.
  6. Training specialists in educational development in medicine and health sciences at the postgraduate level.
  7. Promoting modern medical education concepts in Sudan and offering consultation and advice in the center’s areas of work locally and internationally.

The center includes the following units:

  1. Curriculum and Evaluation Unit
  2. Training and Continuous Professional Development Unit
  3. Research, Documentation, and Publishing Unit
  4. Educational Technology Unit
  5. Supported Medical Education Unit

Non-Communicable Diseases Center

The University Council approved the establishment of the Non-Communicable Diseases Center in its meeting No. (206) on June 21, 2015, with the following objectives:

  1. Preparing and training postgraduate students in the field of non-communicable diseases.
  2. Conducting scientific research in the center’s specialized areas.
  3. Training healthcare professionals, including doctors and health workers, to enhance their abilities in the prevention, treatment, and control of non-communicable diseases.
  4. Strengthening collaboration with the Federal and State Ministries of Health, as well as local organizations working in the field of non-communicable diseases.
  5. Enhancing cooperation with regional and international institutions related to non-communicable diseases.
