300 million dollars in losses for the University of Gezira since the militia’s invasion of Wad Medani.

The administration of the University of Gezira has revealed the extent of the damages suffered by its various campuses, estimating the losses at $300 million. This announcement coincides with a visit by a university delegation, led by the Vice Chancellor, to several campuses in Wad Medani.

The delegation also visited the Governor of Al-Jazira State and the Secretary-General of the Government, in addition to inspecting the Al-Nashishiba and Al-Razi campuses.

Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Noor, the university’s Vice Chancellor, stated that the delegation discussed several issues with the Governor of Al-Jazira State, particularly the resumption of work in all institutions across the state, including higher education institutions, to enable them to fulfill their roles toward society and their students.

The delegation also met with leaders of the Armed Forces and security forces.

Dr. Al-Tijani emphasized that the university administration is currently working on restoring the academic environment, and directives have been issued to address urgent tasks.

He expressed his gratitude to the staff of the Al-Nashishiba campus for their tremendous efforts, saying:
“The damage to the campus was extensive, but we found the staff working diligently, with dedication and sincerity.”

The delegation also held a meeting with the Preparatory Campus Committee, assessing the challenges they face before issuing directives to provide the necessary resources.

Meanwhile, Dr. Yasir Hilal Al-Hashemi, the university’s Secretary-General, disclosed the estimated financial losses, stating that the damage assessment committee reported losses ranging between $260 million and $300 million during the militia’s invasion of Wad Medani.

Dr. Al-Hashemi affirmed that, with the collective efforts of the entire University of Gezira family and its affiliates, the university will successfully rebuild all its campuses. He added:
“We have now recalled members of the university security staff, environmental workers, and the engineering administration, and the rest will be called back to participate in the university’s reconstruction and the resumption of work across all its campuses in Al-Jazira State.”
